Stag Night

A Bachelor's Last Night of Freedom

Edited by: Chris Measom

Bachelor parties are a strange and wonderful phenomenon. A night where “men can be men”, whatever that means. Well, a new book, entitled, Stag Night, sets out to redefine what a “man’s last night of freedom” is really all about. Like many women out there, I have often wondered what really does go on at these all night, all weekend, boys-behaving-badly secret parties, where the only girls allowed are usually nude ones!

Chris Measom’s book takes a look back at the history and future of the bachelor party. Complete with sexy stories from way back when, naughty jokes, great retro illustrations, and randy poems, this book has a little something for everyone.

As you open this mysterious and enchanting book, the first thing I noticed was the lack of misogynistic themes. This book does not set out to bash women. This is a book by men, for men, and you will not be disappointed! I enjoyed the whole thing from cover to cover and wish they had the female version! (Hey, Chris, get started on that!) Here were some of my favorite boys-behaving-badly moments:

1. I learned the history of the Stag party. It originated in ancient times, where Spartans would gather and drink a toast to a fellow warrior who was about to get hitched. In fact, these Stag parties were “men only” clubs until after World War II, when the “wild women” began to appear (aka strippers and dancers).

2. The history of the Stag Film was fascinating, the earliest naughty movie from this genre was in 1915, entitled, “Free Ride”. He lists tons of these old skin flicks; some have great names like “Jack the Sniffer” (1965) and “Dr. Hardon’s Injections” (1931).

3. And while I will never understand the appeal of dwarves attending bachelor parties, he gives a great guide for the Best Man on what drinking games to play, recipes for great party food (for all different appetites and preferences, which I thought was very progressive) where to take trips, off-beat ideas for parties, like deep-sea fishing to a weekend of Dungeons and Dragons, pranks to play on the groom-to-be, and how to arrange and handle appropriately “the entertainment.”

4. There are quite a few naughty, steamy stories to enjoy, from fictional ones to the most  salacious bachelor party scandals, as well as a hangover helper guide at the end! Many of the pages are meant to be cut-out and used as a guide to help ease things along for all involved, which I thought, was genius. It is an actually USEFUL book!

5. Loved the quotes, anecdotes, funny sex jokes, great roast ideas and great toast sayings, like, “Here’s a toast to your new bride, who has everything a girl could want in her life, except for good taste in men!" Ha!

So, if you are planning a bachelor party, looking for a quirky gift for a groom-to-be, or just want a good laugh, then I highly recommend this book! It has it all, and it was very fun to read and explore! I even learned a few things along the way!

I will leave you with my favorite joke in the book:

"He held her close against him, a burning glow of satisfaction going through them.

'Am I the first man you ever made love to?' he panted.

'You must be,' she said, studying him closely. 'Your face looks very familiar.' "

Stag Night can be purchased HERE and is on sale for $9.97! A great deal on a great book!
