Want to do something special for that special someone during the summer months? How about a little summer pick-me-up in the morning and a unwind-me-down in the evening?
So, why not try a light and refreshing smoothie to energize you in the morning and a smoothie with an added adult beverage to relax you in evening?
Smoothies are inexpensive, easy to make, and you can get creative with your ingredients.
Make your own simple syrups to add exotic flavoring. Simple syrup is combination of 1 to 1, sugar to water. Using this simple combination, you can add spices to match your imagination.
Try basil, thyme or combine strawberries and habanero for a sweet kick; in any case, trying some of the suggestions I have provided should make for a smooth summer!
Honeydew-Kiwifruit Smoothie
(Save on calories and leave out the sugar if you choose in any of these recipes)
Try this delicious all-fruit smoothie that gives you the added bonus of a hefty dose of vitamin C and potassium, which is great for healthy bones and teeth.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups cubed honeydew
- 1 small Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and cut up
- 1 kiwifruit, peeled and cut up
- 2 tablespoons of simple syrup (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup ice cubes
Directions:
Use a blender to combine honeydew, apple, kiwifruit, simple syrup, and lemon juice. Cover and blend until smooth.
Add ice cubes; cover and blend until cubes are crushed and mixture is slushy. Garnish with additional honeydew and/or kiwifruit slices, if desired.
Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie
This is a great on-the-go smoothie chock-full of protein and potassium.
- 10 ounces skim milk or plain rice milk
- 1 tablespoon all-natural peanut butter
- 1 medium banana
Directions
In a blender, combine all ingredients and mix until smooth. Use 6 ice cubes for a thicker consistency.
Banana-berry smoothie
- 1 1/4 cup(s) orange juice
- 1 medium ripe banana, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup(s) frozen blueberries, blackberries or raspberries
- 1/2 cup(s) silken tofu
- 2 ice cubes, crushed
- 1 tablespoon of simple syrup
Directions
Combine orange juice, banana, berries, tofu and crushed ice in a blender; cover and blend until smooth and frothy. Sweeten with simple syrup, if desired. Serve immediately
How about a little adult beverage added to your smoothie to end the day?
- 1 part passion fruit liqueur
- 2/3 part blue curacao
- 1 splash crème de banana
- 1 part orange juice
- 1 part pineapple juice
- 1 splash lime juice
- Collins glass
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a blender with ice and blend until smooth. Add a little Sade music to the mix and look forward to a very nice evening...
