Pure Pleasure!
Remember on Sex and the City, when Samantha went to the restaurant, Raw, to meet and seduce the waiter, Smith? It would take a hot romance to get me to a restaurant to eat food that wasn’t even cooked! But, that was before I tried Pure Food and Wine! We were led through the dimly lit restaurant out into their beautiful garden in the back. How wonderful it was to dine amongst the flowers and trees in the middle of Manhattan!
The wine list was very thoughtful with many organic wines to choose from. We chose a Gran Reserve Rioja. It was light and fruity. A perfect complement to the fresh foods we were about to enjoy. Chef Neal Harden has created an unbelievable menu. Who cares that they don’t have a stove! It was really hard to choose from the menu because so many items sounded so delicious. We ordered a salad of compressed heirloom tomatoes and avocado pistachio mint and caper dressing, fennel pollen and shaved fennel. Wow. It was amazing. That was followed by an asparagus sushi roll with mirin soaked forest mushrooms, avocado, red pepper and scallion. It was mouth-watering and seasoned to perfection.
For main courses, we tried the zucchini and heirloom tomato lasagna with basil pistachio pesto, sun-dried tomato sauce, and pinoli ricotta. It was unbelievably good and really filling. We also tried zucchini blossoms with garlic chive cheese and heirloom tomatoes, house cured olive tapenade and spearmint. Zucchini blossoms are a rarity. Just ask my friends that try to grow them. So whenever they are on a menu, order them. You won’t be disappointed and we weren’t. You can also try the four course tasting menu that is chosen by the kitchen, which was eclectic and looked delightful.
We didn’t have room for dessert, but we will go back again to make up for it as it seemed like there were a lot of tasty treats on the menu. Yes, Pure Wine and Food is pricy, but worth it. The food is fresh and seasonal and local when possible. The menu is so unique and interesting, and the atmosphere is so serene and beautiful. We think this is a beautiful romantic place to take that special someone. So try Pure Food and Wine. Tell them www.twodaymag.com sent you! Enjoy!
