Banish Boring Dates, For Good!
You would think that writing about relationships all day long would make one jaded to all things “dating related.” But, my good friend Molly surprised me with her lovely idea for a romantic and unique date. Most of us think dinner and a movie, but she really set something up that was special. Here are some ideas (inspired by her!) to change up the normal Saturday night routine.
Molly’s Date:
If you are both animal lovers, or lovers of the outdoors, I highly recommend this option. Why not plan horseback riding at dusk, complete with a bonfire and romantic picnic afterwards? When she told me about this plan, I said, “Molly, I want to go on this date!” It sounds fun, it’s different, and incredibly romantic.
For the More Adventurous Spirit:
Hot Air Balloon rides! Sounds like something out of a romance novel? Well, while it may seem like a crazy idea for a date, what better way to get up close and personal than clutching to one another in fear and wonderment as you ascend into the sky, beautiful landscape before you, all the possibilities for romance in front of you. Plus, wouldn’t it make a great first date story to say your first kiss was literally amongst the clouds? Have a romantic dinner somewhere after, or grab a drink and recount your death-defying adventure! (Ok, maybe not death defying, but a little drama never hurt a good story!)
Appeal To Your Inner Child:
Why not spend an evening in an amusement park? Evenings are best because the air is usually cooler, the families have all gone home with their kids, and the lines are shorter. Just remember, don’t eat a big meal before heading out to the park! If you can’t do roller coasters or don’t like amusement parks, water parks can be a lot of fun, too. Just go, have fun, ride the rides, get yourselves both worked into a tizzy. Dating is supposed to be fun, remember?
Cooking Class:
So you may not have aspirations to become the next Mario Batali, but a cooking class could prove to be not only useful, but sensual and fun, as well. Food is love, after all. We all need nourishment, and cooking together is a very intimate and romantic experience. Pick a type of food you both enjoy. Thai, Italian, Indian, whatever your pleasure, cooking together brings you closer, teaches you how to compromise and of course, there is the anticipation of dessert! You may want to wait until class is over, for that, though!
Explore Local Theatre:
Yes, it’s always tempting to see a movie or to catch a mainstream, well-known play in town. But, look a little harder. There are tons of free or very inexpensive ways to immerse yourself in local culture through your local theatre groups. Hear a poetry reading, watch a one-man (or woman) show, enjoy a dance troupe. I have always enjoyed the arts. They bring us alive, remind us of our humanity, and question our purpose. I can’t think of a better way to spend date night then enjoying a local play and afterwards, a moonlit stroll complete with a kiss under the stars.
Whatever you choose to do for a date, remember, it’s the conversation and the “spark” that will make your day memorable. Have fun, don’t stress and enjoy the company of your lover!
