We live in a very unromantic society, wouldn’t you agree?
Television is filled with break-ups, breakdowns, and of course, relationship drama. But, very rarely do we see an act of romance play out on the small screen.
Movies are no better, anymore. Sex is considered hot and edgy, but romance? Romance is for schmucks. At least, that’s what seems to be the message sent to us.
But, it doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t have to live in a society of cynics. A little romance in our lives can go a long way and can brighten anyone’s day.
Life coach, dateologist and contributor to twoday, Tracey Steinberg, knows quite a bit when it comes to bringing romance back into your life. Here’s what she has to say when asked if there is any way to bring some romance back into the 21st century.
“Anyone who wants to be romantic can be. Being romantic is really just the act of expressing your affection for your someone special in a way that they’ll appreciate.
When it is sincere, it is a truly beautiful gift.
If you don’t have a lot of time or perhaps you just started dating, I recommend candles, background music, flowers, chocolates, and/or a beautiful card in which you express your affection and appreciation for them.
The reason these traditions have lasted throughout the generations is because people have always appreciated these types of traditional, uplifting and simple romantic gestures.
However, want to kick it up a notch? If you really want to romance that someone special in your life, I recommend that you spend some time thinking about what truly makes them smile. Are they really into poetry? Perhaps take them to a local reading. Into jazz music? Find a local jazz band and share a bottle of wine together.
The most important part of any romantic gesture is the thought behind it. Thoughtfulness is always at the base of any romantic act.
Don’t forget to think outside the box. Everyone has a different definition of what they find romantic.
The best way to show someone how special they are to you is by demonstrating that you know, better than anyone else in the world, what makes them unique.
Choosing to do something that makes them uniquely happy will be more meaningful to them and will be much more romantic.”
