Misery loves company....

So, you think your latest breakup was bad? Think again. Sure, you may be heartbroken, or really angry at what happened between you and your now ex-lover, but at least it wasn’t splattered all over the national (and in some cases, international) media for the whole world to see. Sometimes, after a breakup, a person has meltdown. They get drunk in public, for example. (Xtina, I’m talking to you!) But, the worst place those unflattering photos of you falling on the sidewalk may show up would be on Facebook. If you are a celeb? They could end up all over CNN.

However, who takes the cake when it comes to the most recent worst celebrity breakups? While there are plenty to choose from, here is twodaymag’s countdown of the five nastiest, messiest breakups to hit the news in recent years...now don’t you feel better?

#5 LeAnn Rimes and Dean Sheremet

“Your cheating heart....will tell on you....”

And, boy, did it ever. Country star (and singer-songwriter), LeAnn Rimes, shocked us all when she decided to divorce her hubby of seven years, dancer and chef, Dean Sheremet, after she was caught having an affair with actor Eddie Cibrain on the set of her television movie in 2009. Rimes and Sheremet finalized their messy divorce in 2010 after mudslinging on Twitter. Cibrain filed for divorce from his wife in August 2009. Making things worse for Rimes was her unapologetic nature of flaunting her affair with Cibrain, clinging to him, showing off her new love in public, before her divorce was finalized. Next time, Ms. Rimes, show a little respect (and some class) before parading your new lover around while you are both married. Cibrain, you should know better!

#4 Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt

“And, on the sixth day, God created....Brangelina!”

Pitt and Aniston were THE hollywood golden couple. Married in 2000, it seemed as though this perfect duo could do no wrong. Everywhere they went, the public fawned over them, romanticized their relationship, and were, of course, devastated when things turned sour in 2005. Enter Angelina Jolie. Jolie and Pitt fell for one another on the set of their hit movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, much to Aniston’s dismay. However, this messy break-up was the best (and worst) thing that could have ever happened to Aniston. She was launched into A+ celebrity status, made a string of successful films, and became known as everyone’s favorite “Friend”. But, the tabloids pitted her against the homewrecking Jolie, calling Aniston “sad”, “desparate” and “lonely” without her man. Meanwhile, Jolie went on to have a successful career while raising a boatload of babies with Mr. Pitt. Who wins? Well, Aniston is a free bird, jet-setting around the world, dating famous, handsome men and Jolie is saddled with a growing brood, constant rumors of jealousy and resentment within her own relationship, while Pitt looks as though he has aged at least ten years. You do the math.

#3 Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson

Drama-rama!

Oh, the drama with these two never ends. Even though they were never married, these two wacky lovebirds had a daughter in October of 2009, and that’s when things started to change...for the worse. Gibson was served with a restraining order in June of 2010 amid rumors that he had been physically and verbally abusive to his then-girlfriend, singer-songwriter, Oksana Grigorieva. Tapes were subsequently “leaked” of him explicitly threatening to kill her, along with other career-killing tidbits of him speaking badly about women and minorities. These two are still battling it out and who knows when their drama will end. Gibson has ruined his career and his good name in Hollywood, with most actors and directors steering clear of his nonsense and moments of temporary insanity. Bring on the circus clowns!

#2 Sandra Bullock and Jesse James

America’s Sweetheart mends her broken heart...

Girlfriend could not catch a break. You would think winning an Oscar for her heartfelt performance in 2009’s, The Blind Side, would have been the highlight of her career. But, it was overshadowed by a very public, very messy break-up just days later from TV’s Monster Garage host, Jesse James. Bullock discovered James cheating only days after winning her award, with not one woman, but with so many women, the public (and I’m sure James, himself), lost count. James tried to repair his image by entering rehab (briefly) and blaming his mistakes on his childhood upbringing. Bullock showed grace under fire, however, and has moved forward from the devastating P.R. disaster with the upmost elegance. She even showed the world how good life was after introducing everyone to her newly adopted baby boy, Louie. James, however, has showed us more of who he is by becoming engaged to tattoo artist, Kat Von D., before the ink was even dry on those divorce papers. Now, rumor has it, he is in the midst of writing a “tell-all” book that will focus on his marriage to Bullock. Can you say, “pig”?

#1 Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods

The fall from grace...will he ever recover?

Much like James, Woods, the most beloved golfer in history, made even bigger history in 2009 for his repeated indiscretions. Woman after woman came forward saying that they, too, had fallen for Tiger’s charms (whatever those may have been) and had slept with the famous athlete behind his wife, nanny and former model, Elin Nordegren’s, back. The shock of this betrayal was heard around the world, and rumors swirled that Tiger had even been cheating on his wife while she was in labor with their second child. For shame, Tiger, for shame. Sponsors quickly pulled out and Nordegren walked away from the marriage with a huge (but undisclosed) amount of money to start her new life--Tiger-free. Yes, money can’t buy you love, but it sure as hell can get you that pool boy you always wanted. Go have some fun, girl!
