Money Can Buy Comfort...But Not Love
In these economically troubled times, many people worry that because they are either out of work or are strapped for cash, that they won’t be able to find a partner who wants to be with them because of their economic situation. Fear not, here are five reasons it rocks to be in love during the recession:
Broke is the New Black.
Since most people are struggling more financially these days, explaining to someone why you can’t take them to the new five-star restaurant in town won’t seem so depressing. People are understanding of tough financial situations now more than ever because they too are feeling the pinch. So, relax. There are plenty of great ways to enjoy your time together as a couple that don’t have to include maxing out your credit cards, like strolling through the park, visiting museums, matinee movies or street fairs.
It’s a Boost for Your Sex Life.
Too broke to go out every weekend or take that mini-vacation that you had been planning in your mind? Create a sexy ambience at home, with scented soy candles, mood lighting and a bubble bath. Have a glass of wine together, listen to some romantic music, and create your own little heaven on earth.
Enjoy Happy Hour.
Want to take your partner out for a fun night but don’t quite know how you can financially pull it off? Try happy hour at your favorite restaurant. Usually, from 4-6pm, many upscale restaurants have happy hour menus where their most popular dishes are a fraction of the price, along with drink specials. So, get dressed up, sit at the bar with a great cocktail, some lovely appetizers and enjoy each other’s company, without having to sweat over the bill.
Bringing People Together.
You may not be able to rent a VIP table at an expensive lounge downtown, but you can still have your friends and their lovers over for a pot-luck dinner and some laughs. Planning social gatherings at your house or apartment doesn’t have to break the bank if everyone pitches in. Having your lover by your side as you both host these low-key, enjoyable events can not only bring you both together as the “power couple” of the group, but it is a great way to expand your social circle and have a fantastic party.
Perspective.
Falling in love during a recession allows you to really see why this person is in the relationship with you. Money can buy you comfort, yes, but it cannot buy you true love. When you are with someone who is truly in it because they love you, they will learn to go with the flow, enjoy the ups of life together, accept the downs, and live in the moment. Making someone smile doesn’t have to cost a thing. A kind word or deed is free. Nurturing your relationship on an emotional level may have seemed like a daunting task before, but now that you have less “things” to distract you from one another, you can really discover the depth of your love.
