LeAnn Rimes: Why I Cheated

LeAnn Rimes, the controversial country songstress explains herself and why she cheated in the October issue of Shape magazine. Many people who thought of Rimes as “just a country singing sweetheart” have vilified her after her very public affair with actor, Eddie Cibrian. Their indiscretion led to the collapse of both their marriages and many people have since called Rimes a “home wrecker,” amongst other not-so-flattering names.

“I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America’s sweetheart,” states Rimes, 28, to Shape magazine. “I think any relationship is hard to get out of, and I don’t think the way I did it was right.”

Rimes had been married to Dean Sheremet, 29, a former dancer who is now a chef at Nobu in New York City, for eight years when she began sneaking around with Eddie Cibrian on the set of their TV movie, Northern Lights, in November 2008. But, it wasn’t until several months later that her relationship with Cibrain “tipped over”.

“It was very emotionally driven,”belives the singer. I never once thought what I was doing was okay.”

In June, she had confessed to People magazine, stating, “I did one of the most selfish things that I possibly could do, in hurting someone else.”

Yes, you did commit adultery and you did do it with the world watching, but I find it interesting that Cibrian has never felt the need to “confess his sins” for falling for Rimes and ruining her marriage. Why is it the blame always seems to fall on the woman? Didn’t he hurt his now ex-wife and assist in the dissolution of two marriages, as well?

While Cibrian remains somewhat mum for his reasons for stepping out on his ex-wife, Rimes blames getting married too young for the reason for her marriage ending.

“It wasn’t a fulfilling marriage for either of us,” she explains to Shape. “As we got older, we grew apart.”

But, Rimes points out, “there are lessons in it for me to learn” and states that she is still figuring out “what is the most important thing”, which is “cultivating strength from rough situations.”

Having finalized her divorce in December and has since moved in with Cibrian, she belives, “I know I can face anything.”

What does her now-ex husband think about her apology for the relationship ending? He doesn’t seem to see it the way she does.

“Age had very little to do with why we got divorced. I was very content and satisfied. I put myself on hold to funnel all my creative energy into her career and our marriage. I was willing to make the sacrifices necessary to have a successful marriage and further her career. I knew, and know, her better than anyone else in the world.”

Dean has since moved on and is dating a photographer, Sarah Silver. He seems happy in his new relationship, saying, “I am happy now. Sarah is amazing, and I didn’t realize what I was missing and how much of myself was being neglected. I am very fulfilled in my life and work. It’s a grounding feeling.”

And, there you have it. Apparently, no love lost on this one.
