Equal Rights for All!
In celebration of Prop 8 being ruled unconstitutional in California yesterday, let’s dismantle the anti-gay propaganda and lies that were used to perpetuate hate and fear that fueled the existence of this infamous ban on human rights. As our country moves forward, there will always be people trying to stop the progress of the human spirit through misinformation and ignorance. Well, at least they won’t be able to use these arguments again...
Traditional Marriage is Between One Man and One Woman. Says So in the Bible.
Clearly, those reading the Bible may have missed the part in the book of Genesis (chapters 28-32), where Isaac's son, Jacob, takes on two wives, Rachel and Leah, who were sisters. Oh, and they happen to be his first cousins. Yet, incest and polygamy are not condoned in our society. Should we change those rules? If Jacob can do it...
Marriage is for Procreating.
If that’s true, no one should be able to get married if they are incapable of reproducing or choose not to reproduce. Yet, that would leave out many, many heterosexual couples from the institution of marriage, as well.
The Government Will Force Religious Officials to Marry Gays.
Marriage comes in two forms. Spiritual and legal. Spiritual, or religious, marriage has nothing to do with the state. Many religious institutions do not condone gay marriage and not one religious official has been forced by law to perform a religious marriage ceremony. Since our government’s responsibility is to not impose one religion’s beliefs on any citizen, any couple should be guaranteed under the law the ability to have a legal marriage. Finding a place of worship to accept their spiritual union is an entirely different matter.
We Don’t Need Gay Marriage. We Have Civil Unions.
Unfortunately, the rights given through domestic partnerships vary from state to state and don’t provide any federal rights because of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Gay and lesbian couples have the right to be married under the law and given the same rights and privileges as any straight couple would be given. Separate but equal just doesn’t work. It may be separate, but it certainly isn’t equal.
Children Will Be Harmed Growing Up With Same-Sex Parents.
The Academy of Pediatrics has concluded that “there are no data to suggest that children who have gay or lesbian parents are different in any aspect of psychological, social, and sexual development from children in heterosexual families.”
In fact, a 17 year-old study conducted at the University of California that studied families headed by lesbian parents, showed that these children were more psychologically sound, have less behavioral issues, were less aggressive and less prone to breaking rules than children raised by heterosexual parents.
So, the next time someone starts grumbling about “gay rights” and “gay marriage”, kindly remind them that we all have the right to pursue our happiness.

Sounds like “traditional” marriage is one man and as many wives as he can afford.
In the case of the GOP hypocrites on this issue: it’s one man, one wife and as many mistresses as he can afford.
