Two Day Magazine

This week there have been two major scandals in the news. One incredibly serious (which has been excellently covered on this site) and the other incredibly ridiculous. Let’s talk about the fun one.

In March 2002, Penn State football graduate assistant Mike McQuery (who is now an assistant coach for Penn State) witnessed Sandusky having sex with another child in the shower at Lasch Football building. McQuery reported what he saw to head coach Joe Paterno, who then contacted PSU athletic director, Tim Curley. McQuery met with Curley and Gary Schultz just a few days later. Sandusky’s punishment? His keys were taken away to the locker room.

Actually, the word bitch can be traced way back to Elizabeth I of England. Incensed by her rejection of his marriage proposal, King Philip II of Spain called her “a power-sated bitch.”  He was further humiliated when his Spanish Armada was soundly trounced by the petite queen’s navy.

While we each have individual lives, every decision made has a domino effect on those we surround ourselves with. More than just the decision-maker is affected. There really is no such thing as “I” or “me.” Life is about “we” — all of us, working together.

“Famous Canadian” Justin Bieber has recently been hit with a paternity suit by 20-year-old Mariah Yeater saying that the Canadian knocked her up backstage at the Staples Center while he was 16, making her now three-month-old child his son.

While I was certainly embarrassed that I couldn’t speak Spanish proficiently, I didn’t really start paying attention to what it meant to be Mexican until the talks of “Border Wars” became political heated debates. I found myself getting angry with politicians refering to undocumented Mexicans in the U.S. as “illegal aliens”.

Wouldn't be nice if the people causing you so much grief would at least write down a list of things not to discuss? That's not likely to happen. Since we can’t ask them to write one, I have made my own generic list for all family gathering occasions.

In this crazy world where it sometimes seems as though we’re all too stressed out, we all want and need to feel loved. For the average person, it’s easy to get caught up in thinking life is awful because you’re living paycheck to paycheck or because you can’t afford a new car or your own house.
