The ‘Real Life’ Samantha Jones?

I have heard that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I never thought I would read about a grown woman sleeping with 1,000 men just to emulate the ‘Sex and the City’ character, Samantha Jones.

Christina Saunders, a British woman who clearly took her love of Samantha to a whole new level, decided to go on her sex pilgrimage after finding herself unbelievably fascinated by Samantha’s sexy character.

She began watching the beloved show after a flu kept her in bed while attending a university in Bristol.

“The thought of four women gloating about sleeping their way around New York hadn’t appealed to me, but I had nothing better to do so I watched it,” she remarked.

After watching it, she decided that maybe through sleeping with lots of men, she would gain the confidence that Samantha’s character oozed on screen.

“Sam went from one man to the next and was proud of it. I wanted to be confident like her. I got hooked on the buzz of one-night-stands,” said Saunders to News Of the World. She added, “Samantha was sexy, confident, and proud. She had a male attitude of sleeping around and it fascinated me.”

My question is, how does one find the time to sleep with 1,000 men? It must be exhausting! It took Saunders about a decade to go through that many guys, mostly by sleeping with one random guy a week. She took part in threesomes and even expanded her hunt for Mr. Right Now all over the world. Just last month, she slept with lucky number 1,000 (does he win a door prize or something?) and finished her journey.

Now that the game is over, Saunders does feel some regrets and stated, “good friends stuck by me but others accused me of being a slut. I took things too far. Now, all I want to do is settle down. I just hope I haven’t put men off.”

I feel sorry for Saunders. She clearly wanted to feel sexy and confident and thought that the way she would achieve that would be through adding notches to her belt. As women, many time we believe our sex appeal comes from exterior things like our make-up, our clothing and our overall appearance. But, sex appeal isn’t something so tangible. It is a feeling, an energy of confidence and vitality that sets one apart from the crowds of beauties that are out there. What Saunders neglected to realize was that by determining her self worth based on the number of men she slept with, she lost her own self in that mix and succumbed to instead being objectified by those she thought that she was objectifying.

I hope in the future Saunders will treat herself with more respect and understand that while it is fine to sleep with men, doing so to ‘act like they do’ or to emulate a character on television isn’t a good reason to set yourself for the possibility of disease, unwanted pregnancy or worse, a broken spirit.

In time, I am sure she will heal from this and let her past be her past, but ladies, take this as a lesson to learn. To be sexy and confident, one must know themselves, one must know their own heart, and certainly, one must know their worth.

I can only imagine the “I’ve got something to tell you…” conversation with a guy she wants a real relationship with. How is that gonna go?! I hope he doesn’t have a weak heart.

I agree. If I were her, I would “gloss” over all of this! No need to give an exact count! Ha!

Just say, “more than 20” and leave it at that! Haha!
