Prostitution has become such a nuisance in Switzerland that Zurich officials have made offers to create “sex boxes” in the city. This idea already manifested itself in German cities such as Cologne and Essen, and it would be a way to keep prostitution out of public view.
This is why I love Europeans. They realize that you can’t legislate morality, so it’s just better to regulate a situation than try to make it illegal and more of a pain for everyone.
Zurich residents whose houses overlook the red light district are in favor of the “drive-through” sex boxes, as they are sick and tired of having to look at such personal acts in public.
“They get up to all sorts in broad daylight--and we’re sick to death of looking at it,” one resident told the U.K’s Metro.
Reto Casanova (yes, his real name) who is the police’s spokesperson had this to say:
“We can’t get rid of prostitution, so we have to learn how to control it.”
The boxes will be big enough to shield vehicles where the sex workers and clients are conducting business, and it will be less offensive to those around the area, who will no longer have to wake up to any unsightly...acts.
While this may strike some as disgusting, I find this to be a very practical solution. The residents are happy because they don’t have to look at it anymore. The prostitutes are happy because they won’t be arrested for conducting their business, and the clients, well, they’re just happy.
Instead of trying to outlaw every little thing that someone finds offensive, asking ourselves questions like, “Does this really affect me?” could be used more in our own legal system when conjuring up unnecessary legislation. (Like banning same sex marriage, eliminating federal funding for abortion, and of course, keeping prostitution in the United States illegal--outside of a few isolated places.)
While some may disagree with how Switzerland conducts themselves, is there really anything wrong with the drive thru sex boxes? My issue with prostitution has never really been the act itself, but more of the exploitation of women. If a woman wants to have sex for money, however, that is her choice and I think it best if the rest of us stay out of it. If she is being coerced, forced or threatened into prostitution, that is an entirely different matter. If two consenting adults want to engage in personal and private acts, who are we to interfere?
Those of us living in the United States may want to take a few notes from the people of Switzerland and realize that while we may not always agree with how others choose to live their lives, that doesn’t give us the right to force them into our way of thinking. Live and let live. It seems to be working in Switzerland!

Drive thru?
I guess instead of “Jack-in-the-Box” it’s “John-in-the-Box”.
BTW, can I get fries with that?

They need garbage cans in there I think…
I like the striped pole and white line – safety first!
