When we think of phone sex operators, we often want to envision young, pretty, single women who are just so eager to talk naughty on the other end of the line. What we don’t want to think about are “real-life” moms with kids who are taking these jobs because the rent was due, like, yesterday.
Well, welcome to the 21st century American job market. Where the modern woman makes ends meet...well, any way she can.
The sex industry has always been a viable (albeit less desirable) money-making route, and when times get tough, it is no surprise to see more and more women doing what they have to in order to make ends meet.
I actually don’t know if anyone is actually surprised by the fact that stay-at-home moms are doing what they have to do to pay the bills, but I do love the surprise from our media. They just can’t believe it! How could our good, wholesome, American mothers have to reduce themselves to becoming phone sex operators??? Is there no justice in the world?!
Actually, now that I come to think of it...there is no economic justice in the world...hence the fact that women are willing to do what they need to in order to provide for their families. Until we see some sort of pay equity really happen between men and women’s jobs, and until we see an end to gender discrimination in the workforce, and until we start taxing the rich at a sane rate in order to stabilize the middle class ... well, let’s just say the phones are going to keep ringing...

Human beings are perhaps the most resourceful species on the planet. People will do what they have to, to adapt.
What conservatives cannot grasp, is that morality is relative. Conservatives reject the idea of moral relativism. There is no such thing as universal morals.
The great paradox is that conservative policies actually increase immoral and criminal behaviors, not dissuade them. As wealth monopolizes, those without means will resort to whatever means possible to survive. This often means illegal activity, such as crime, theft, burglary, pick-pocketing, gambling, black market trade, drug-trafficking, and prostitution.
In short, if the Religious-Right doesn’t want to see America’s mothers resorting to selling themselves as phone-sex operators, then vote to provide good-paying livable wages at respectable jobs so they have a valid alternative to feeding their children and paying their bills and debts.
In summary, this is a tragic outcome of conservative policy in my opinion. This is why President Obama’s jobs bill is needed more than ever today.
