Inexpensive Fall Date Ideas

By: Libby Keatinge

Oh boo-hoo. Summer is a wrap and your surf lessons, barbecues, and flip flops are gone almost as quickly as they showed up. Although fall is upon us, that is no reason to throw in the towel, curl up at home in a blanket and watch your favorite reality shows. Autumn is a season to celebrate!

When it comes to dating on the cheap, fall is hands down the best season for finding bargain plans. Whether you are newly dating, have been with your sweetie for awhile now, or are boycotting dating all together - it is always a plus to find a fun activity (whether with a date or a pal) that is low pressure, low key and bonus- cheap!

From seasonal drinks to activities that you can only do in crisp fall weather, autumn is bursting with plans you can do as a pair.  So wipe your eyes and don’t be blue that your summer rental is over and you just stored all your sundresses away, There is plenty to be excited about this season. Here are some of our faves:

Pumpkin carving: All you need is a couple of pumpkins, some pumpkin carving knives, and a bottle of wine. (Sip slowly – knives are involved! We don’t want this ending in a trip to the ER.) Have fun with this low pressure date, where you can rehash your Halloween memories growing up while cutting away at your pumpkin. After you have created a Halloween masterpiece, you can cook the pumpkin seeds in your oven for a simple snack that will surely impress your date.

Walk in the park: Grabbing one of those seasonal pumpkin lattes and then going for a stroll through the freshly fallen leaves is worlds away from traipsing through the park on a hot summer day. Strolling in your boots and turtleneck while flirting with your honey will have you two looking like a Ralph Lauren ad.

Costume Shopping: Everyone needs a second opinion when it comes to picking out your Halloween getup. Take your man to Ricky’s Superstore or your local costume shop and you both win – you get an honest opinion on whether that Snow White costume is slutty or cute – and he gets to watch you try on different outfits. Oh and how fun is it to play with fake blood and face makeup?!

Day trip:
You may not be able to splurge on a vacation, but there are plenty of inexpensive day trips that get you out of the city without breaking the bank. Combine leisure and learning and take the train to DIA: Beacon museum, a little over an hour journey from Grand Central.

Haunted House: Oh it’s so chilly and you are so scared! Grab onto your lover while running through a creepy gory haunted attraction like NYC’s Blood Manor or Horseman’s Hollow right outside of the city. Hauntedhouse.com has listings by state of haunted houses.  It is much more original than a trip to a wine bar, and your tab will probably end up about the same.
