Christina Aguilera: Faux Lesbian?

Why Xtina is Sometimes Attracted to Women

Christina Aguilera has had a rough couple of months. Her album, Bionic, isn’t doing as well as expected and she recently canceled an upcoming tour to promote her album due to “scheduling conflicts”. So, when your career is heading south, it’s the best time to be controversial and keep your name in the press.

Aside from her bad burlesque costumes and naughty photo shoots, Aguilera likes to keep it real and discuss her seemingly favorite topic. Her sexy self.

“I feel sexuality to be very empowering,” said the singer, 29, to the july issue of the U.K. magazine, Company.

“I think men love to believe that they own our sexuality, so if a woman represents herself in a sexual way, people think, ‘Oh, it must be for a man. But, men don’t have the right to own our sexuality. If I want to be sexual, it’s for my own appreciation and enjoyment! That’s why I like to talk about the fact that sometimes I am attracted to women. I appreciate their femininity and beauty.”

So, does that make her a sometime-lady lover? Would her husband approve? What guy wouldn’t want another girl in bed with him, although that usually progresses smoother in fantasy land than in reality. (But, that debate is a whole other blog!)

Don’t call Aguilera a lesbian or bisexual, though! She doesn’t wear those kinds of labels well and instead chalks up her openness in order to “fight for women’s rights in the sense that we shouldn’t be ashamed of ourselves or our bodies.”

Her husband shouldn’t worry too much, though. She refers to him as the “calm in the storm” of her life, but acknowledges that you “have to work at all relationships”.

Xtina has been discussing her sexuality for years now, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that she feels sexual and enjoys the company of both men and women. What I find annoying about the whole situation is while her words say one thing, her actions speak another.

Her video, “I’m Not Myself Tonight” seems more exploitative of female sexuality than empowered. She ripped off a lot of scenes from Madonna’s groundbreaking video “Express Yourself” right down to the monocle and yet when Madonna did it, you knew she was in control. Aguilera appears apprehensive in her video, like a little girl playing latex dress up. I really wanted to like this video, but I just couldn’t and it had nothing to do with her “ripping off” GaGa or Madonna. It just felt forced. I miss the days when Aguilera actually sang the big ballads. That’s her schtick. Prancing around in naughty lingerie isn’t all that empowering, especially without the energy behind it. Having a boring “sexy” song to go with it? I think she just set the women’s movement back about 10 years.

The difference between Madonna (in her prime) and Chrissy is one of energy. Seeing Madonna in a fetish outfit, I’m thinking “Youch! Madonna looks so hot in that!” With Chrissy I think ” Hm, that’s a really hot outfit…... oh, there’s somebody wearing it…”

Madonna and many other women can be sexy opening a kitchen cabinet; Aguilera tries too hard to turn up the heat and doesn’t succeed.

Wow she has really changed her style; did not even recognize her,, !  She looks like she is scamming off of Lady Gaga’s style,, who definitely incorporated Madonna’s genre in her style,, but as the comment above states Aguilera looks like one big rip of both of them;  I echo the same- she does not succeed…
